SEEGRID Robots Coming SoonPosted 24 Mar 2006 at 01:12 UTC by steve
It's been a while since we last reported on SEEGRID, the company working on Hans Moraveck's volumetric
sensing technology. The company was started to commercialize Moraveck's
robot vision and navigation ideas. Since 2003, SEEGRID has been doing R
& D. Last year, the company announced it was working on its first
product, the SEEGRID
Smarttruck. Now, a reliable inside source has informed us the
company is close
to shipping real robots. Nothing is expected to be made public for
several months but frame
grabs from the vision system of a research prototype have been
posted on Flickr. Video of the robot
itself shot by an employee has also found its way onto the net.
This could be big news as their robots will likely be the first
completely vision-guided robots for commericial material handling jobs.
SEEGRID's CEO, Scott
Friedman, is listed as a speaker at the
RoboBusiness 2006
conference in June 2006, so look for further news there.
