Real Star Wars Probe Droids?

Posted 26 Jun 2001 at 13:22 UTC by The Swirling Brain Share This

I noticed this article on TheForce.Net (a Star Wars fan site) which was copied from USA Today. The article mentions some of the military's UAV's and what they're useful for. Mentioned are the MAV or Micro Air Vehicle and the Dragon Eye. Here's a video of the Dragon Eye. Robots.Net has covered the Dragon Eye before here.

Although I think these things are cool, I'd hardly call them a probe droid. They're more like expensive RC Airplanes with cameras on them. I think we have a long way to go before we have truly robotic autonomous probe droids with repulsar-lift levitation and propulsion. :-)
