Robonexus: Day 1 Report

Posted 7 Oct 2005 at 05:29 UTC by steve Share This

Robonexus in San Jose got started with a introduction from Dan Kara of Robotics Trends followed by conference sessions on a wide range of topics. One of the more interesting presentations was by Matt Mason, director of CMU's Robotics Institute. Mason presented video of all the best CMU projects ranging from Dante to Sandstorm. The Robonexus exhibit area won't open until Friday. Firgelli Technologies announced a new line of micro linear actuators targeted at medical robots and other small robots. I've discovered that Robby the Robot will be on hand Saturday. I'll post a report on Friday's session tomorrow along with plenty of photos so you can see what you're missing.

. . .that I burn with jealousy.

I hear that iRobot arranged to have you all overrun with tykes today. How was it? Not too bad I hope.

In any case, I'm still jealous, even if you are wading through crowds of 7 year olds that shriek whenever Aibo barks.

The kids didn't get in the way too much and they seemed to be having a blast. Anytime there was a robot demonstration, a million kiddos would appear out of nowhere and surround the demonstration. There were a lot of adults attending too.
