The people at http://freeio.org are trying to do for hardware what open-source is doing for software. Basically a source for free hardware designs. Some of these are perfect for robotics work including their newest PC/104 I/O board at http://freeio.org/library/grits.htm - I think this is could be the start of something beautiful!
