Ray Kurzweil: The Singularity is Near
We recently reported on
Ray Kurzweil in a recent Forbes article. Well, now it looks like
the hype and review of his new book, "The Singularity is Near"
has reached epic
proportions and are showing up on everyone's radar screen. If you
don't know who Ray
Kurzweil is, that's probably a good thing, but if you do know him,
he's probably already twisted your view of future reality and future
human-tech ghost in the
shell type possibilities. He's
entertaining if a bit kooky and from all the companies he's started
he'll fake you into believing himself to be intelligent. So you are
drawn to him, repulsed by
him and intrigued by him all at the same time. Anyway, check out what
future geekyness he has to say but be on your guard as many of his
predictions about the future could be cool but yet again they're weird
and will keep you debating on whether they should or should not come true. Similar articles...

There is an informative Slashdot
thread about Singularity. Worth a glance if you're curious
to see what the community thinks of the man.
Personally I read The Age of Spiritual Machines a couple years
back and found it informative but at times misleading and not entirely
justified. His track record is excellent but some of his futurist
notions are. . .somewhat surreal. Still, he's not a complete charlatan.
He's even personally helped bring about some of the technological leaps
he's predicted, which is impressive. I wish some of our political
pundits would take it upon themselves to deliver a tiny bit of what they
sometimes promise.
Also, for the interested, Rossum's Children has a post
about an interview he did with C-net last week. Worth a read if
you're following the blogstorm about him.
