A Flying Robot to Protect the Rainforest

Posted 4 Aug 2005 at 19:07 UTC by steve Share This

A reader submitted a link to a Computing article about a flying robot developed by Tim MacMillan for the Eden Project to help in conservation of rainforests. Flybot flies by means of a helium balloon and caries sensors and cameras for monitoring the plant canopy. At present the robot is being used inside the Eden Biome. For more on Flybot, quicktime panoramas and photos are available from the site of panoramic photographer Ian James Woods. More photos can be found on the LMA site. Similar rainforest robots that travelled on wires instead of balloons were described in a 2003 robots.net article.
