Sandia Reveals Mini-Radar for UAVs

Posted 20 Jul 2005 at 19:33 UTC by steve Share This

A Sandia National Labs news release reveals details about a tiny high-resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system designed for use by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). The MiniSAR weighs only 25 pounds and can provide four inch resolution with a range of 6 kilometers. The new sensor is less than a quarter of the weight and a tenth of the volume of the radar system used in the Predator UAV. Sandia is negotiating volume production agreements with military contractors. How long before a surplus MiniSAR turns up on a hobby robot?
