Posted 13 Jul 2005 at 13:04 UTC by The Swirling Brain Share This

Robotic soccer championship RoboCup opened Wednesday in Osaka with 333 teams from 31 countries and regions. The autonomous robots of Robocup include humanoid bipeds, dog-like quadrapeds, and wheeled robots all kicking and pushing little soccer balls to their goals. Among the colleges and universities competing from the U.S. is Spelman, in Atlanta, the only undergraduate, only historically black and only all-women's institution to qualify for Japan competing with four AIBO dogs programmed to play soccer. There are gobs of articles and pictures pouring out of Japan about the Robocup so search and enjoy.
