Pascal Brisset has released a tutorial on building robotic microhelicopters from off-the-shelf components. His design uses a Gumstix XScale board running Linux that is linked via bluetooth to a Linux-based Laptop computer. Pascal's tutorial includes photos, diagrams, and sources for all the components. The prototype is called ChRoMicro.
