Government Computer News says that the Defense Department will develop a new OS for robotic combat. This new Common Operating System instead of controlling hard drives and keyboards will instead control weapons, communications, automatic control and sensors and must be interoperable with other DOD elements. DARPA wants the Common OS to be used by future UCAVs such as Boeing's X-45 and Northrop's X-47 both now being developed.
