First Robots for CMU's Hall of Fame

Posted 11 Nov 2003 at 06:00 UTC by steve Share This

In May we reported on CMU's creation of a Robot Hall of Fame. Now, CMU has finally announced the first four robots to be added. They are "NASA's Mars Pathfinder Microrover Flight Experiment (MFEX), better known as Sojourner; Unimate, the first industrial robot; R2-D2, the unforgettable droid from the Star Wars movie trilogy; and the evil HAL-9000 computer, featured in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, created by science fiction writer and futurist Sir Arthur C. Clarke and director Stanley Kubrick." HAL is sure to stir up some controversy since there's always someone who will insist HAL was not a robot.
